Peter Parker's romantic troubles are in full display this issue:
Mention is made of Peter's relationship with Betty Brant. The pair are old flames having dated from Amazing Spider-Man #7-30. Betty went on to marry Ned Leeds in Amazing Spider-Man #156. Unhappy in her marriage she has been trying to rekindle the old flame since Amazing Spider-Man #183.
Mary Jane has been Peter's on-again-off-again girlfriend since Amazing Spider-Man #42. Their most recent romance began shortly following the death of Gwen Stacy in Amazing Spider-Man #121. Peter proposed to her in Amazing Spider-Man #182, but she turned him down the following issue.
Peter recalls his previous battle with Jigsaw back in Amazing Spider-Man #162.
Spider-Man worries that Liz being in danger might trigger Harry into becoming the Green Goblin again. Following the apparent death of his father, Norman Osborn, the original Green Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man #122, Harry became his successor in Amazing Spider-Man #136. However, Harry abandoned the role after extensive therapy until Amazing Spider-Man #176.
