Alex Raymond

Alexander Gillespie "Alex" Raymond (October 2, 1909 – September 6, 1956) was an American cartoonist. In 1934, Raymond created the newspaper strips Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim, and co-created Secret Agent X-9 with Dashiell Hammett. Raymond illustrated Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim until joining the Marines in 1944. After leaving the military in 1946, Raymond created the comic strip Rip Kirby and drew it until his death in 1956.
