Is there any way to delete things I have put on here?
I have not yet found a way.
This regards images as well as entire comics that I accidentally added twice.

Also, I think there is some confusion that leads to entire series being added under different names by several users. It would be nice if it was possible to merge those into one and not losing any of the titles in the process.

Finally, one more thing: Languages.
As an example, the following series includes some volumes in French and one in German, because the series title is the same in both languages: https://www.comicogs.com/series/8579-Donjon-Parade
Would it be possible to add a feature to either separate the series by language or pick which language books should be shown?
Maybe also to have the possibility to add descriptions in the languages that are then shown along with the language books?

Hi the_vamipire,
If you see any entries you think should be merged, please add links here and I'll merge them. Same with images, just let me know which ones you'd like to remove.
Thanks for the suggestion regarding languages, that's definitely a good point. We'll take this into consideration moving forward! Cheers

For merging:
https://www.comicogs.com/series/33621-Sandman
https://www.comicogs.com/series/8845-The-Sandman

For deletion:
https://www.comicogs.com/series/21528-Ranma-1-2
(it featured just a couple of comics, so I changed their series credit to the more used version here: https://www.comicogs.com/series/20696-Ranma-1-2)

merged those duplicates, thanks Ambassador_M

These can be deleted. I changed the submissions using them to using an ANV of The Walt Disney Company instead.
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/27307-disney
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/10373-disney-tm

Merged those dupes, thanks everyone.

@arbakol: Would you say that those are just magazines and not comics? I'm not familiar with those titles.

Yes, they are magazines, or fanzines, about movies. I don't have these, but take a look at the covers describing the contents. I also question this contributor's entries under the "Battle Picture Library" series, but I don't have evidence to support removal.
The "Han Solo" entry I flagged is an action figure (toy).

The Han Solo entry is actually a comic book. That's a variant cover designed to resemble one of the Kenner action figures.

Darthemed, thanks for clarifying that. My error.

Thanks for flagging these. I've followed up with the submitter to confirm whether any of these are comic books, comic fanzines, magazines, or zines and will edit or move to Bookogs where required.

merged those dupes, thanks arbakol.

This publisher should be deleted as it has no entries
https://www.comicogs.com/publisher/44201-k-k-publications

all entries under this publisher should go here
https://www.comicogs.com/publisher/30672-k-k-publications-inc

merged thanks jnelson0331

Two entries for series Captain Victory And The Galactic Rangers (second link has preferred capitalization style):
https://www.comicogs.com/series/45965-captain-victory-and-the-galactic-rangers
https://www.comicogs.com/series/81008-captain-victory-and-the-galactic-rangers

Sloppy publisher entry for deletion:
https://www.comicogs.com/publisher/32300-first

fixed those thanks Darthemed and arbakol

merged those dupes, thanks everyone!

Fixed, thanks Darthemed.

fixed, thanks jnelson0331

Not sure what this is, its unused

https://www.comicogs.com/publisher/48115-carl

Are these still under consideration? I wanted to make sure there weren't any pending deletions or merges before I submitted any others.

Yes, still checking in on these, merged or removed the ones above. Sorry for the delay, thanks jnelson0331!

How far back did you go? They don’t all seem to be corrected yet

Need to be merged:
https://www.comicogs.com/comic/30575-saga
https://www.comicogs.com/comic/77830-saga

Why was this site opened with less functionality than discogs? Did no one learn any lessons? We're only a year in and this place is an unusable mess already...

@jnelson0331: Apologies. Think I got them all now.

merged the other ones too, thanks everyone.

@cellularsmoke:

Why was this site opened with less functionality than discogs? Did no one learn any lessons? We're only a year in and this place is an unusable mess already...

I think a lot has been learned from Discogs. One of the lessons was to launch early, iterate with the community, listen to their ideas and needs and try to adapt to the fields of different collectors. We'd welcome more specific feedback about what problems you are having with Comicogs.

It doesn't have the same functionality because it is built on a different set of technologies and uses a different codebase. Discogs is quite tightly tied to the music domain. The mission of the other *ogs sites is to build a general feature set that can then be adapted and specialised to each domain.

Well, very early on there was a topic regarding "Volume" that was supposedly brought to the devs attention - Volume refers to both the iteration of a comic (the fourth comic series to have the title "Wonder Woman" for example) and the Volume of a collected work.

A year later - nothing changed.

What baffles me on this specific topic is that no one anticipated that multiple entries might be entered that need to be dealt with.

Anyway, thanks for the merge, I do appreciate the work you guys do.

Thanks cellularsmoke, just saw that other thread. I'm not sure why we didn't address this issue back then, think it must have gotten lost in the shuffle, sorry. Seems worthy of its own discussion, let's keep it in that thread.

Delete: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/72407-tom-palmer-sr (all moved to Tom Palmer with ANV).

Merged/deleted all of those, thanks everyone.

Question? What about https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6507-louise-jones (her name before she married Walt Simonson).

Good question. I'm not sure what the best way is there. Maybe we need to consider "alias" functionality, like Discogs, distinct from anv's? For now I just updated the notes with links

Cool.

Found another one, but it might be difficult
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6018-Frank-Martin
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/9021-Frank-Martin-Jr
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/9073-Frank-Martin-Jr

They mainly appear to be Frank Martin Jr. - the colorist - but there is a Frank Martin who's a comic writer: https://www.frankthewriter.com/

And there's
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6211-Rain-Beredo (correct)
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6298-Rain-Bereda (typo)

Then there's a few of these:
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/13750-rain-beredo-pete-pantazis-guy-major (people who don't understand the credits system). Might be worth adding some text on the form saying one person per credit.

From my previous post.

With duplicates like these, what is the deciding factor for whether you merge them or delete one? With these, it seems like one should have been removed, instead of merging them. Following that, how is it determined which of two duplicate entries should be removed?

Are the duplicate titles an issue now that they are merged? Could this cause a problem with sales searches?

https://www.comicogs.com/credit/32084-car-barks

This is another one that just seems like it should have gone away completely, it was a misspelled entry, with no need to refer to it again, once the entry has been corrected.

Merged those above, thanks!

It is mostly to still keep the data around in case of any mistakes or disputes. Also because of link rot for external linking, if other websites link to specific pages and for search engines we don't want 404s. Also for things like credits it moves linked entries from the duplicate to the merge.

The merged entities should not show up in searches or linking, but it they are still there and can be found by admins.

Following that, how is it determined which of two duplicate entries should be removed?

We don't really have a hard rule, some heuristics though:

  • Older entries over newer ones
  • Entries that look more complete and correct over less complete
  • For linked entities (like credits), we usually go for the ones with the most linked documents (most issues attached).
  • More / better images
  • Often times all of these rules go together

If the community feels like we should build better guidelines and harder rules around merging we can discuss that.

re the frank martin one. If there are two different individuals, I think maybe those need to be done on a case by case basis. Maybe a note should be added to each of the profiles too, mentioning/linking to their namesake?

Done. Though the writer Frank doesn't have anything submitted yet. I've given him a profile anyway.

Nice one donnacha, thanks.

How’d you do the internal links? Markup? I thought we couldn’t do that here.

HTML links work in the notes section. We plan to add Markdown and other richer editing options soon-ish.

merged, thanks jnelson0331 and minor

One of those Squees is the second printing, the other is the fourteenth.

ups, yes - you are right...my apologies!

Merged, thanks everyone!

Merged, thanks jnelson0331

Two entries to be deleted. They were created by me a while ago and I forgot when o added the rest of the series

https://www.comicogs.com/comic/83900-spider-gwen

And

https://www.comicogs.com/comic/83901-spider-gwen

deleted, thanks DrBoots

Hi, can you delete this entry please? https://www.comicogs.com/comic/90160-spawn I found it has already been entered but didnt turn up in my original search. Thanks

There appear to be some duplicates in 'Zero Hour'. This https://www.comicogs.com/comic/78320-zero-hour appears to be a duplicate of https://www.comicogs.com/comic/3003-crisis-in-time and this https://www.comicogs.com/comic/78322-zero-hour appears to be a duplicate of https://www.comicogs.com/comic/3008-crisis-in-time

I seem to have entered another duplicate. Can you remove https://www.comicogs.com/comic/83816-green-lantern in favour of https://www.comicogs.com/comic/84358-green-lantern please?

Merge candidates? https://www.comicogs.com/series/46259-supermans-pal-jimmy-olsen and https://www.comicogs.com/series/39306-supermans-pal-jimmy-olsen

I think the series with punctuation is the correct name ...

Thanks DrBoots, these have all been merged now

Thanks Darthemed, these have been merged

merged, thanks DrBoots and Darthemed!

Looks like the JLG-L pages were merged into the José Luis Garcia-López page, instead of José Luis García-López (with a tone mark on the i in Garcia). The latter is the form used on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%c3%a9_Luis_Garc%c3%ada-L%c3%b3pez), Comic Book DB (http://www.comicbookdb.com/creator.php?ID=121), and the official DC Comics site (https://www.dccomics.com/talent/jos%C3%A9-luis-garc%C3%ADa-l%C3%B3pez).

Thanks Darthemed and BadMoon, merged now.
Sorry Darthemed, that was my mistake re: José Luis García-López. Will get that straightened out, thanks for the heads up!

Duplicate credits. The right spelling imho

https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6808-Jamie-S-Rich

And the wrong one
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/35946-Jamie-S-Rich

Can these be merged please?

Merged those now, thanks DrBoots!

Looks like it, merged them now. Thanks DrBoots

I think these two are the same person:

Correct spelling (I think): https://www.comicogs.com/credit/7119-ellie-de-ville

and https://www.comicogs.com/credit/19697-ellie-deville

Got them, thanks DrBoots

I think these two are the same person

https://www.comicogs.com/credit/59451-chris-visions
and
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/59450-chris-visions

Odd how they are consecutive ;-)

I'm confused about the number of different instances of Marvel and DC but, for now, these two appear to be the same

https://www.comicogs.com/credit/5140-marvel
and
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/9154-marvel

I think these three are the same co. but I wonder whether there should be aliases available for the Credits section as they are probably printed as they are entered here

https://www.comicogs.com/credit/92548-r-r-donnelly-inc
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/10273-rr-donnelley
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/85956-r-r-donnelley-inc

Thanks DrBoots, I've merged these now

For deletion: https://www.comicogs.com/comic/62423-fantastic-four
I have it already entered with more updated info. thanks. Matt

Can you provide the url for the correct version?

I think these two are the same person. Incorrect grammar:

Correct grammar: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/92832-marcelo-di-chiara

Not sure if all there entries were merged into 1 yet. It made me create him as yet another new one today.

Thanks Darthemed and BadMoon, merged now.
Sorry Darthemed, that was my mistake re: José Luis García-López. Will get that straightened out, thanks for the heads up!

I think these three are the same person (one spelling mistake, one bad grammar, one good'un)

spelling mistake: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/18374-romulo-fajaroo-jr
good'un: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/91056-romulo-fajardo-jr
bad grammar: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/47528-romulo-fajardo-jr

merged all of those thanks mlopinto, DrBoots and djaeon

Got 'em, thanks DrBoots and mlopinto

These three are probably the same person.

Probably wrong spelling: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/5132-david-lafuente
Probably wrong spelling: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/72586-david-lafuenter
Almost certainly correct spelling: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6274-david-lafuente

Are these two the same person, albeit with a spelling mistake?

Possible mistaken spelling: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/25750-paul-kupperherg
Correct spelling: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/7706-paul-kupperberg

merged all of those, thanks for the vigilance.

Hi,

please remove this issue

https://www.comicogs.com/comic/93881-wonder-woman-steve-trevor-1

It turned out I've added it twice ... doh!

Don't know about you, but I reckon this is probably a mistake ;-)

Are these two the same person?

Correct grammar: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/5723-brian-k-vaughan
Incorrect grammar: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/91557-brian-k-vaughan

I fixed it:
Don't know about you, but I reckon this is probably a mistake ;-)

thanks,
Matt

Are these two the same person? The Danny Miki I see referenced has a single 'k'

QQ: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6326-danny-mikki
Real person: https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6077-danny-miki

That's all, I've merged all of these apart from Tom Palmer and Tom Palmer Jr. as they appear to be father and son

I didn't realize it was his son. I may have screwed up all my entries by changing all of them to Jr. I thought that they were the same person in the same way John Romita then became John Romita Sr. I guess I was thinking he didn't start out that way then became a Sr.

I didn't realize it was his son.

Yeah it's so tricky when they use the same name.

Merged those H. G. Wells pages, thanks!

thanks Dr Boots, merged these now

Are these two supposed to be the same person?

https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6204-kristy-quinn
https://www.comicogs.com/credit/6559-kristy-guinn

If so, then the first one is the right one.

Thanks DrBoots and BadMoon, merged these now
