Sorry if this was discussed before.
How should the existing fields be used to submit Franco-Belgian albums, which is one of the main ways comics are published in Europe, not only on those two countries but in several others as well?

Some of the doubts I have when submitting these kinds of comics are:

  • What Type should be used? I’ve been using Graphic Novel, because the definition given in https://www.comicogs.com/wiki/type-of-item-description is the one which fits better. Sometimes Comics Strips is also adequate. But I’ve seen a lot of submissions using Comic Book and Original Graphic Novel. Comic book is not defined in the wiki, but albums are quite different than a US Comic Book, IMO. Original Graphic Novel seems to be something particular to Marvel, according to the wiki page, which makes this choice of Type clearly wrong...

  • What Format should be used? I’ve been using Oversized Hardcover because, compared to a comic book size, albums are clearly oversized. Should I use just Hardcover?

  • Should Volume or Issue be used to number a book within it’s series? I started using Volume, because, virtually, that’s what almost everybody is doing in the DB, when dealing with albums. But the definition in https://www.comicogs.com/wiki/comicogs-submission-guidelines-and-submission-form-description seems completely at odds with this. Should I use Issue, the same way I would for a comic book?

Wikipedia describes a bit how a comic album is, if anyone needs it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco-Belgian_comics#Formats (I know it’s not the best description, I’m sorry)

Thanks!

I think we should use comic book, as this appears the more "generic term" here. I would not use graphic novel... this term did not even exists when francobelgian comics appeared.
I think few years ago i suggested adding francobelgian comic as genre.
It was not picked up.

On another hand they should delete "original graphic novel". As described in the wiki, it is a series of Marvel, so not a genre at all.
If we were to add new genre for each series of publications by publishers, it would be nonsense ( ex: aire libre, carte blanche, etc for francobelgian).

When they started comicogs we requested many more formats to fit euro comics. It was not picked.

Also we need a field for original language. Like on bookogs.
And add barcode in the dropdown of codes...

Thank you for your comments, tam89rds.

That would be helpful, specially a "Album" (or similar) option on Type.

I agree. And original title, too.
